Some of My Favorite Links

Here are links to some of favorite sites.

Children's Literature:

Whether you're a writer, librarian, teacher or a parent, these sites are worth a visit.

Kay's Special Interest is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in children's literature. Books, reviews, authors, and information about gender and culture are included.

A Children's Book Editor's Site Harold Underdown has compiled links to resources for writers, editors, teachers, librarians, parents, and others--children's book people. His site includes articles for children's writers and illustrators, a primer on agents, writing multicultural books, interviews, a useful bibliography, and more....

Children's Authors Who Visit Schools:
I'd love to be invited to your school, but if I've already been there, here are some directories with links to additional children's authors who enjoy visiting schools.

Nonprofit Primate-Related Foundations:

I am closely involved with these organizations. You can help endangered primates by volunteering time, attending events, ordering fun primate products from their catalogs, or by donating money (any amount helps).

Orangutan Foundation International is the ultimate resource on wild orangutans. Dr. Birute Galdikas is the founder. If you've ever fantasized about going to Borneo and working with orangutans this is the site for you.

International Primate Protection League is international network works to protect primates in the wild, in zoos, and in laboratories. The headquarters in South Carolina has an on-site gibbon sanctuary. This is a great place to begin.

My Publisher:

Chronicle Books My publisher creates beautifully illustrated and photographed books. You can read an excerpt from Among the Orangutans, find out where I'll be doing presentations, and learn about other Chronicle authors. Stop by the Fun House for activities such as making "edible jewelry."

Los Angeles Area Book Stores:
If you live in or are planning a trip to Los Angeles, these are among my favorite book stores.

Through a Child's Eyes Book Store This large, beautiful children's book store in Downey is owned by former teacher Ane Miller and her husband David. It's wonderful collection of books, maps, puzzles, stuffed animals and games make it a must-see store. Their events include author book signings, storytime, and teachers' nights.

Cultura Latina Bookstore This store specializes in Latino culture, art, history and writers. Stop by and meet owners Anita and Roberto Cano. They welcome you into their Long Beach store as if it were their home.
